Security profile card

This card opens when you create or edit a security profile.

Security profile details

  • Name — the profile name.

  • Hide "Start" menu — hides "Start" in Windows 10 and makes it non-functional (empty) in Windows 11.

  • Prevent shell minimize — blocks minimizing the shell. If this is off, users can minimize it to the taskbar like a normal app.

  • Restrict desktop switching — blocks switching between Windows virtual desktops.

Restrictions

Lets you create custom restrictions. When you click "+ Create Restriction", a parameter appears that you can configure.

  • Parameter — the name of the content (app) to restrict. What you enter here depends on the restriction type.

  • Restriction type — how Gizmo detects and blocks the content.

    • File name — the executable's file name as it appears in Windows File Explorer. Example: chrome.exe.

    • Class name — the class name of the app window. To find an app's class name, use the WinLister utility.

    • Window name — the window name as it appears on the taskbar (in WinLister, the Title column).

    • Tray icon — special codes for hiding icons in the system tray. In the Parameter field, enter the icon name or its code:

You can use wildcards (*, ?) to restrict several executables with one restriction. For example, adding Cheat Engine* as a Windowname blocks all versions of Cheat engine.

Which type to choose: File name is the simplest, but renaming the file gets around it; Class name is more reliable, but several programs can share one class; Window name is a good alternative to the file name, but some programs change their title on the fly, so use wildcards. Ready-made restrictions for common cases are in Security profiles.
